Visit to Willyard Elementary

Today members of our team visited Willyard Elementary School in Ravenna as part of our community outreach program.

Our student-athletes helped out in two physical education classes with 5th and 3rd graders.  They got the students warmed up and stretched out before participating in soccer drills.

Then, the classes went outside and our student-athletes were introduced to a new game: Gaga bin.

Gaga bin is played in a octagonal-shaped wooden box.  Players hit a playground ball around with their hands in attempt to hit another player.  If a player is hit with the ball below the knees, they are out.  If a player hits another with the ball above the knees, the player that hit the ball is out. Once a player is out and leaves the bin, someone from outside the bin is able to enter the game.

It was a fun experience and the games definitely got competitive with the students!

Visit to West Main Elementary in Ravenna

Today was the first day of our community outreach initiative to give back and get out in our local community.

Several members of our team spent the morning at West Main Elementary in Ravenna.  While there, our student-athletes were each assigned a classroom and helped the teachers with their morning lessons.  The players took part in one-on-one reading, read to the class as a whole, helped groups with specific tasks, as well as other duties.

Sophomore Heather Bachman was one of the student-athletes that helped out this morning.

"It was fun," Bachman said.  "They were really excited to see us.  The excitement on their faces was nice and it was new."
